English

Camilla Läckberg is one of the authors responsible for my love of the Nordic noir genre. This time she leaves Erica and Patrik aside to continue Faye’s story, whom we met a couple of years back in The golden cage (you need to read this first to understand Silver tears).

I loved the first installment in Faye’s story cause there’s nothing I like more than a story of female revenge. However, this time around it didn’t grab me as much.

Faye’s character has lights and shadows, which is appreciated (nothing worst than a bland lead), but many decisions she takes this time are questionable. Her last two books have been focused on female empowerment, so it’s a bit surprising that as soon as a new man appears in her life she does the opposite of what she preaches and asks of other women. Sorority? She forgets all about that word! All the romantic plot seemed a bit forced, going from 0 to 60 in a few lines.

The flashbacks to Faye’s childhood helped to understand the character better. I found these chapters even more entertaining than the main plot.

The business plot was oversimplified (which I appreciated, in part) and some characters were caricatures so stereotyped they were.

The ending leaves the door open to a new installment and, although I think this one was just ok, the writing style and the rhythm all Läckberg’s novels have, will make me come back for a new chapters in Faye’s journey of revenge.
