SYNOPSIS
In a cabin in a wood,
A woman by the window stood.
Glancing out, she thought she heard
Footsteps, whistling, something stirred.
Hiding here, she fears the night,
For what’s done in the dark will come to light.
She must run fast to escape her lie
Or she’ll be the next to die…

REVIEW
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I just wanted to start this review saying I’m a city person (who would have guessed, right?) that would not survive out in the wild for five minutes, so kudos to Rose! You go, girl!
After enjoying some of the author’s previos work I was quite intrigued by the synopsis (or lack of) of The Cabin In The Woods. A woman all alone in a cabin out in the woods, hiding from her past, sounded like a great premised for an intense psychological thriller, and it did not disappoint!
In true Cinderella style, Rose’s life went from rags to riches when she met Ryan Reid and her story turned into a fairytale. But the ending was not a happily ever after and, through past and present timelines, we’ll learn how Rose came to be in her current predicament in the cabin.
I found the story to be pretty engaging right from the start. It moves at a really nice pace and the author manages to perfectly dose little snippets of information, whetting the reader’s appetite to keep on reading and find out what lies behind Rose’s paranoia.
Rose’s character was really well portrayed, making her instantly likeable. You root for her even when she comes as a bit unreliable, cause you know at heart she’s a good person.
The atmosphere was also magnificently well done. Rose’s fear while out in the woods was palpable and I could really share the anxiety she felt of being discovered.
There were several twists that kept the suspense and tension escalating, leading to a really (REALLY) satisfying conclusion.
Fantastic psychological thriller that shows that not all that glitters is gold, and that a cage can be gilded but is a cage all the same. Really recommended.
