"After a certain age, you can do pretty much do whatever takes your fancy. No one tells you off, except for your doctors and your children"
Welcome to Coopers Chase Retirement Village, a retirement village where I would surely like to retire to. What a lovely and fun place!
Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim, a.k.a. "The Thursday Murder Club", are a group of septuagenarians having the time of their lives in their old age. They meet every Thursday (who would have thought!) to go over cold police cases, solving crimes over a cup of tea and a slice (or several) of cake. When a fresh murder happens in their village they take upon themselves solving their first live case and catch the murderer.
It's been a while since I fell so hard in love with a group of fiction characters. Several books this year have made me realize that I adore stories with the elderly as the main star. All four "not so amateur" investigators were so full of charm I completely understand why the police fell under their influence so easily. I just loved their unapologetic behavior and how they railroaded the police in such a cute way. They may be old but their brains were sharper than all of the younger guys ones.
The writing was witty, the style engaging and the plot flowed perfectly from page one. The short chapters and Joyce's diary entries made it nearly impossible to stop reading. There were several clever red-herrings thrown around (thank god ONE of them was just that! My heart could not have taken anything else!) and the murders resolutions were all completely satisfying.
Super fun and sweet mystery with characters so lovable and quirky you'd love to have them in your living-room having a cup of tea and a slice of Joyce's cakes. Super excited for book two in the series and the chance to meet the gang back again.
