TESTIGO DE MEDIANOCHE

SINOPSIS

ENGLISH

If I had to use only one word to describe “Testigo de medianoche” it would be disappointing. I’m always excited to discover new Nordic noir series but, I don’t know if it was the translation (some weird word choices) or the fact that this was the author’s debut but I found it a bit lacklustre.

Although there were two plots none of them were particularly exciting. I don’t know why almost all the investigation centered around the dead girl’s case but then later the (not so) “big” reveal was about the dead journalist, while the dead girl’s one is solved in the last 5 minutes. And solved might be too big a word cause we’re just told who the killer was in a couple of paragraphs.

How was it possible that not the entire police force nor a supposedly street savvy reporter could guess who was behind the journalist murder when I did almost from the beginning?

I think the story focused too much on both Louise and Camilla’s personal lives, setting the pieces for the next book in the series. There were some very drawn out scenes (the one where they discuss about the mother and child pic for the newspaper cover was so infuriating) and way too many characters. Were 7 different policeman (that I remember) really necessary? At first it was a bit hard to keep track of all those danish names, especially cause it was an audiobook.

I will keep on reading this series cause it was highly recommended by @crimebythebook, my Nordic noir guru, so I still have hope I will end up loving it.
