EL POZO

SINOPSIS

English

“El pozo” is based on actual events, on the case of a small child who fell down a shaft excavated on a mountain and the media circus that was created around his rescue. At the same time the book is a criticism on the sensationalism with which media deals with this kind of news, where “anything goes” seems to be the norm.

Who cares about showing the suffering and pain of a family if you get a bigger audience? Who cares if you’re giving fake information (knowingly) if with that you get to be on TV a few more days? Why people take anything that is said on TV as an absolute truth? Those in charge of giving the news should reflect upon their way of doing it.

Greta, the main character, can’t help wanting to be the one getting all the scoops no matter what, while on the other hand she questions herself and if what she’s doing is the right thing, and her cameraman is her own Jiminy Cricket. Despite her doubts I had a hard time warming up to her.

Well written and quick paced, it’s an entertaining novel if not for the plot itself, known to everyone here in Spain, but for the critique it does of certain media outlets.
