2021 is coming to an end so it's time to start planning our 2022 TBR. Here is the first part of my most anticipated reads for next year (yeah, I have so many I had to divvy them up in two).
"The couple at the table" by Sophie Hannah
Publication date: January 27, 2022
You're on your honeymoon at an exclusive couples-only resort.
You receive a note warning you to 'Beware of the couple at the table nearest to yours'. At dinner that night, five other couples are present, and none of their tables is any nearer or further away than any of the others. It's as if someone has set the scene in order to make the warning note meaningless - but why would anyone do that?
You have no idea.
You also don't know that you're about to be murdered, or that once you're dead, all the evidence will suggest that no one there that night could possibly have committed the crime.
So who might be trying to warn you? And who might be about to commit the perfect impossible murder?
"Finlay Donovan knocks 'em dead" by Elle Cosimano
Publication date: February 1, 2022
Finlay Donovan is―once again―struggling to finish her next novel and keep her head above water as a single mother of two. On the bright side, she has her live-in nanny and confidant Vero to rely on, and the only dead body she's dealt with lately is that of her daughter's pet goldfish.
On the not-so-bright side, someone out there wants her ex-husband, Steven, out of the picture. Permanently. Whatever else Steven may be, he's a good father, but saving him will send her down a rabbit hole of hit-women disguised as soccer moms, and a little bit more involvement with the Russian mob than she'd like.
Meanwhile, Vero's keeping secrets, and Detective Nick Anthony seems determined to get back into her life. He may be a hot cop, but Finlay's first priority is preventing her family from sleeping with the fishes... and if that means bending a few laws then so be it.
With her next book's deadline looming and an ex-husband to keep alive, Finlay is quickly coming to the end of her rope. She can only hope there isn't a noose at the end of it.
"Am I allergic to men?" by Kristen Bailey
Publication date: February 3, 2022
What if you lost over ten years of your life… and found out you’re single AF, your cat hates you, and your biggest commitment is to Netflix?
I’m Lucy. Out-of-work actress, part-time princess impersonator, Dorito enthusiast. Oh, and I’ve lost my memory.
I got knocked off a bicycle on my way to a children’s party, dressed as Elsa, and accidentally flashed my thong. Now, in my head, it’s 2009 and I’m seventeen years old. Not nearly thirty and starting to wrinkle.
By this stage of my life, I thought I’d be married, with kids and a mortgage. Instead, I’ve got a phone full of dick pics and my longest relationship is with Pinot Grigio. Determined to fill the gaps, I track down ex-boyfriends, friends with benefits and one-night stands. There’s some questionable activity – including a guy with a goatee who fixes fridges, a fling with a man in a Batman costume, and Tony who likes a dance-off.
As I make my way through my contacts list – and try to jog my memory – I can’t help asking: am I allergic to love? Commitment? Men?
And is there a cure?

He is driving his family home after his daughter’s lacrosse game when a pickup truck begins tailgating them, on a dark stretch of road. Suddenly two men jump from the pickup and pull guns on Jason, demanding the car. A horrific flash of violence changes his life forever.
Later that awful night, Jason and his family receive a visit from the FBI. The agents tell them that the carjackers were members of a dangerous drug-trafficking organization - and now Jason and his family are in their crosshairs. The agents advise the Bennetts to enter the witness protection program right away, and they have no choice but to agree. But WITSEC was designed to protect criminal informants, not law-abiding families. Taken from all they know, trapped in an unfamiliar life, the Bennetts begin to fall apart at the seams. Then Jason learns a shocking truth and realizes that he has to take matters into his own hands.
