REVIEW

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why do I like so much stories with a skiing setting when I haven’t skiied a single day (and don’t plan to) in my whole life? And not only is a snowy mystery, it’s also a revenge story! All my favorites! My friend Kim gifted me a copy of The Chalet a couple of months ago so obviously we had to buddy read it. It was so much fun!

La Madière is a luxury ski resort where in 1998 two brothers went skiing into a blizzard but only one of them came back. Now, 20 years later, a body is discovered and four guests at the same resort may or may not be related to what happened years before.

Told on dual timelines I was hooked from the start. It’s a really quick read and, while there may not be nail biting action, I could not stop turning pages trying to figure out how the present events could relate to the past timeline. Most of the characters have some secrets that could be directly related to the body that is discovered, and it was fun trying to guess which of them was the one out for revenge.

There were throughout the story several “WHAT??!!” moments that made me go back and re-read some sections to check if I had missed something.

The atmosphere was awesome. The confinement inside the chalet due to a big snowstorm created a really claustrophobic feel. Add that probably there’s a killer in their midst and you have all the ingredients for some tense scenes.

And let’s talk a second about that last line! Do I smell a sequel?

The Chalet gave me everything I ask for in a mystery, an engaging story,  not so likeable characters and lots of snow and revenge! Now I gotta get my hands into The Chateaux.

Thanks Kim for another great chat!

HELLO, IT’S ME!

I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to read... MY BRAND NEW BLOG! (Look at me plagiarazing   drawing inspiration from Adele for my very first entry).                                                               She approves! So, if you're here reading this...THANK YOU for tuning in! For those who don't know me my name is Javier and after more than a year writing reviews on sites as Goodreads and NetGalley I decided to create my own blog to share my love of books with the world. When I first started writing reviews I was not able to put two sentences together, but as I kept writing I realized I had lots to say about the books I read. Rest assured my reviews will always be honest (no problems here telling when I don't like something) and spoiler free (I hate spoilers!). My personal preferences are:    - Mystery/Suspense/Thriller (medical, legal, cozy... if there's a dead body, I'm in. Not for nothing I'm a medical examiner myself)    - Conte
